A special thanks to all of the extraordinary artists that I have had the good fortune to meet in the workshops over the years. It is a fantastic journey and I am grateful! - Marty Brens

Yellow Pine Ranch LaVeta

Yellow Pine Ranch

"I visited this beautiful, elegant ranch in September this year.  All I can say is it was one of the most stunning settings I have explored looking for venues for the workshops. Everything is top-notch, the accomodations are splendid, a lot of thought went into the atmophere, decorating and the comfortable inviting cabins and chalets. I am "excited" and "thrilled" to share this with my artist friends and instructors. So picturesque, and we get to paint and experience it!  The pictures really don't do justice to the character. This is a 5 star property!"  Marty

For over 87 years, generations of families have cherished a return to our unbridled heritage of western hospitality.

Historic barns of hand hewn timbers, rail corrals and fences  grace this high valley ranch.

And the spectacular natural surroundings are ideal for a painting experience. Long distance views, a babbling brook and pastoral splendor of the mountain vistas, horses, an old barn and flowers, are so inspiring.

Accomodations: Private rooms with baths, and chalets with two bedrooms or one bedroom.  The two bedroom chalets have a shared bath, some have fireplaces and kitchenettes. (You won’t need to cook however as we will be pampered with wonderful food by our chefs, Michael and Steve.

Meals will be catered by Rustingram Caterers. After class appetizers, wine and beer are provided at happy hour after class and with dinner, a suggestion; you may want to bring a few bottles of your favorite to keep in your chalet as they do have fridges.  Simply for your own convenience after class if you want to hang out in your private space.

There is cell service at this ranch, it may be spotty, there are three satellite towers throughout the property so generally people really don't have problems very often. WIFI for your tablets and laptops is available in most locations. and always in the lodge.

We can hold the entire ranch up to 75 days prior to the beginning of the workshop.  Please commit early to ensure the workshop will go.

Things to Do:

Rio Grande Scenic Railroad

The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad offers excursion trains and special event trips leaving La Veta and Alamosa throughout the summer season. Their Summer Concert Series begins in Mid June and takes passengers to a natural amphitheatre high atop Fir Pass, for a full afternoon of music and fun. Other events are scheduled throughout the year. Come join the fun riding the Rio Grande!

Hiking to Ridge
A relatively short hike up to the east ridge of the ranch provides far-reaching views of the area and the ranch and a nice perch to watch the sunset.

River Walks
The streams and rivers offer the relaxing sounds of nature and abundant recreational opportunities.

Horseback Riding
[Reservations required. Please let tell Marty so she can arrange it in advance.]
Horseback trail rides provide a relaxing tour of the ranch pastures, streams, and forest. Horseback rides are available during the summer months to adults and children ages 7 years and up. Ranch guests receive a 20% discount. Reservations required

The main ranch pond is regularly stocked, and guests are required to pay $3 per fish caught in the pond. Stream fishing, requiring a fishing license, is limited to fly fishing with a barbless hook and is catch-and-release only.
