• Students may choose from two beautiful ranch locations this year. We will be returning to Wilderness Trails in Durango, and Red Rock Ranch in Westcliffe, Colorado

• Lunch provided on-site at outdoor painting locations in Pueblo, (Optional).

• Ship your painting materials in advance and save on airline baggage charges. They will be at the ranch when you arrive.

• Shuttle service is available to both ranch locations for a small charge.

• Gift certificates available for any dollar amount applied to a workshop.

• Budget plan: Make a deposit to hold your spot in a class, and then make easy monthly payments on the balance. When the date for the workshop arrives you are set to go.

All Levels – must have painting experience

The focus of this plein air workshop will be the basic fundamentals to creating a successful painting. We will work on the “ how and why” light effects the subject and how to achieve that illusion through a better understanding of composition, values, color and their proper relationships. By close observations and comparisons, simplifying the masses and working on color mixtures the student will leave with a stronger knowledge of painting the landscape. To capture the feeling of a time or place, the atmosphere and mood – that’s the magic of outdoor painting.

A week of small size studies, do not expect to leave with finished paintings, will be the general format; demos, a slide presentation and critiques will also be conducted throughout the week. I will work with each student as to his/her own level, but good-drawing skills are key. This oil painting workshop will be geared towards intermediate to advanced artists.
